Lord Carter has announced his decision to change his recommendation for deadlines on filing paper and online self-assessment tax returns which have been accepted by HMRC.

His new recommendations are that the deadline for online returns stays at 31 January (originally proposed 30 November) and for paper returns be moved to 31 October (originally proposed 30 September).

He did however say that he thinks the issue will return at some point in the future.

Our view is that we should aim to complete all client returns well before these deadlines in any event. Earlier completion of returns allows the earlier identification and implementation of future tax planning possibilities. If your 2005/06 tax return has not yet been completed please contact us with the necessary information to have it completed.
