Bank Holidays To Be On Top of 20 Days Minimum Holiday

The Government is planning to ensure that workers are paid for time off on bank holidays in addition to the minimum four weeks of annual paid leave they are presently entitled to.

As a result, up to 2 million of the low paid workers will benefit with women, part-timers and ethnic minorities likely to gain the most.

The Government are not happy that many people, especially the lowest paid, have to take bank holidays from their annual leave allowance.

It is proposed to gradually bring in the changes, starting in October 2007, when the number of days will increase from 20 to 24 days. The dates for the introduction of the final stages have not yet been finally agreed but by October 2009 it is likely we will be at 28 days.
