Tax Status of Funeral Workers Clarified


HMRC has finally issued guidance on the employment status of grave diggers, choristers and organists to help end the uncertainty in this area where they receive payments on a regular basis from funeral directors.

HMRC have now clarified when the peripheral workers at a funeral might be classified as self-employed.

Whilst you may not be in the funeral business, employment status is a complex area and can lead to large tax bills if you get it wrong. So whatever business you are please contact us if you have any doubts over the employment status of any workers.
