Minimum Wage Increases from 1st October

With effect from 1st October, the national minimum wage rate increase takes effect.

The rate increases are as follows...

Adult workers aged 22 and over - from £5.05 to £5.35 per hour.
18 - 21 year olds - from £4.25 to £4.45 per hour.
16 - 17 year olds - from £3.00 to £3.30 per hour.

Whilst this is good news for lower paid workers it puts more pressure on employers. Apart from the wage rise there are also extra employer national contributions payable as a result of the increased rates.
